Health Benefits of Turmeric
Experience and current studies indicate turmeric has many balancing health benefits, especially positive inflammation response with help from one of the root’s many active compounds: curcumin. According to Dr. Ajay Goel inflammation could be a common denominator in many ailments and scientists now know “exactly how curcumin counteracts inflammation on a molecular level,” which is why it is being studied as a possible treatment option.
Amazingly, there are more than 70 varieties of turmeric! The world’s predominant supply is a variety called Indian Yellow, but we at Temple Turmeric work directly with Hawaiian farmers to source a proprietary variety called Hawaiian Oana Turmeric, which has superior nutrition. Most notably, our Hawaiian Oana Turmeric has more than 4.5 times the amount of curcumin as Indian Yellow Turmeric!
When vibrant turmeric is paired with symphonic adaptogens, your body is able to optimize the bioavailability of curcumin. Combining turmeric with ingredients like black pepper, cayenne, ginger, and plant-based fats, like coconut and hemp, help increase the functionality of curcumin by helping your body absorb it more readily therefore increasing your body’s positive inflammation response. In fact, consuming black pepper with turmeric is shown to increase the bioavailability of curcumin by up to 2,000 percent!
And, fresh turmeric juices and beverages are a preferred way to retain the powerful compounds, enzymes and nutrition available in whole-root turmeric. According to Whole Foods’s global grocery purchasing coordinator, Dwight Richmond, “turmeric drinks are very bioavailable,” he said, adding why he likes it in beverages: “They get into your body a lot more quickly as a liquid than as a capsule or food source.”
